The Test of Gaza – From the Ashes of My Family, I Speak

My daughter asks me why Allah ﷻ  allows this suffering, why He lets the bombs fall, why He let her father and her siblings die. I tell her the truth:

“Do people think that they will be left to say, ‘We believe,’ and they will not be tested? But We have certainly tested those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.”
(Qur’an, 29:2-3)

I tell her that this life is a battlefield, not for land or power, but for the soul. The people who bomb us think they are winning, but they do not see the victory in patience. They do not see the victory in faith. Every test we endure brings us closer to Allah ﷻ , and every atrocity they commit brings them closer to His punishment.

The Ummah: One Body, Hurt but not Broken

As I sit with Asma, my heart aches not only for what we endure but for the state of the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The believers, in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion, are like one body. If one part of the body suffers, the rest of the body responds with sleeplessness and fever.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6011, Sahih Muslim 2586)

I believe this to be true. I have felt the love and prayers of the Ummah across the world, their cries mingling with ours as they protest in the streets, as they raise their hands in dua, pleading to Allah ﷻ  to lift our suffering. But I also know they are powerless. The Muslim masses, though their hearts ache for us, stand helpless against the forces of oppression. They are shackled by Western powers, crushed by global systems of control that leave them unable to act meaningfully.

What grieves me most is not only the Ummah’s powerlessness but the betrayal of the Muslim governments, the rulers of lands rich with resources and history, who issue their empty condemnations and shallow words of solidarity. But words do not stop missiles. Statements do not mend shattered bones. Resolutions do not protect us from the drones that hover over our skies.

The rulers of the Muslim lands have abandoned us. They have abandoned the way of the Prophet ﷺ and the authority of Allah ﷻ . Their alliances are with those who oppress us, their wealth spent on pleasing the West rather than protecting the believers. And so, the body of the Ummah lies broken, its heart crying out for justice while its limbs are tied.

The Path to True Liberation

This is not how it should be. The suffering of Gaza is not just a tragedy-it is a sign of how far we, as an Ummah, have strayed from the path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We must remember that true justice and peace will only return to this world when the authority of Allah ﷻ  is restored to the earth. The Qur’an reminds us:

“And judge, [O Muhammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you.”
(Qur’an, 5:49)

The laws of Allah ﷻ , the hukm of the Creator, are not merely rules-they are the foundation of mercy and justice. They are the cure for the diseases of greed, oppression, and tyranny that plague this world. Only when the way of Muhammad ﷺ is re-established, when the believers unite under the banner of Islam, will the hell of Gaza-and the countless other atrocities inflicted on the Ummah-come to an end.

It is time for us to wake up as an Ummah. Not just to feel the pain of Gaza, but to act. To collect ourselves, to unite, to rise beyond borders and divisions, and to bring the guidance of Allah ﷻ  back to this earth. This is not a political goal-it is a sacred duty. Allah ﷻ  commands us:

“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you-when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers.”
(Qur’an, 3:103)

The Ummah is one body. If we do not act to restore its strength, the suffering of Gaza will repeat again and again. The Prophet ﷺ warned us of this disunity:

“The nations will call each other and set upon you just as diners are called to a platter of food.” Someone asked, “Will it be because of our small numbers that day?” He  replied, “No, you will be numerous that day, but you will be like foam on the river.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood 4297)

We have the numbers. We have the faith. What we lack is the will to rise as one, to stand for the authority of Allah ﷻ  and the Sunnah of His Prophet ﷺ.

This is not a call for revenge-it is a call for restoration. Restoration of the justice, mercy, and dignity that Islam brought to the world. The suffering of Gaza will not end with more condemnations or more protests alone. It will end when the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ reclaims its role as the beacon of Allah ﷻ ’s guidance, a mercy to all mankind.

Let us strive for that day, when no child will fear a missile, no mother will bury her killed children, and no father will die under the weight of oppression. Let us strive for the day when the hukm of Allah ﷻ  is the law of the land, and the light of Islam guides humanity once more.
